The Beauty of Stained Glass Windows, Meredith Gill
Meredith Gill is a special occasion designer based in New York. She graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a B.F.A. in Fashion Design. Meredith’s methodology involves taking small details and making that the main focus of a design.
How did you come to be fashion designer?
I went to the Fashion Institute of Technology to study Fashion Design and earned both an Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees while specializing in Special Occasion/ Eveningwear. How I got my “big break” was when I placed my wedding dress into a FIT club’s, the Fashion Art and Design Club, fashion show and the model posted a bunch of pictures which got the attention of movie director, actor, and model, Dante Briggins. Dante helped me make connections to different directors of different fashion weeks such as West New York Fashion Week, Jersey City Fashion Week, and Atlantic City Fashion Week. If I hadn’t put my wedding dress into that club’s fashion show, I wouldn’t have made the numerous connections and be where I am now right after graduating.
What’s the inspiration behind your Stained collection?
The inspiration behind my newest collection, Stained, is the beauty of stained glass windows and the variety that they come in. Between looking at intricate floral designs and simple frosted windows, I used simple design ideas with detailed oriented floral and artistic prints with a variety of fabrics to create my second collection, Stained.
What message are you conveying in the video for this collection?
I’m trying to convey inner beauty and to embrace nature being whimsical in the woods and in an open field.
Where do you find inspiration for your work?
I find my inspiration for my work mainly through social media and exploration. Having an eye for detail, I try to look at the little things in life and make that the main focus of my designs; i.e. butterfly wings or windows.
What can we expect from you over the next few seasons?
You can expect to see me at more fashion weeks, expanding my collections, diversifying my designs, and stay active with in the fashion community.
